Dr. Maria Teresa Castro is a Canadian Board-Certified Dental Specialist in Periodontics and Dental Implant Surgery and an internationally trained Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Since beginning her dental career in 2000, Dr. Castro has dedicated herself to advancing her expertise and providing comprehensive, patient-centered care.
In 2017, she made Saskatoon her home and became a partner and co-owner of Saskatoon Perio, where she continues to contribute to the health and well-being of her patients and community.
Dr. Castro completed her specialty training in Periodontics and Dental Implant Surgery at the University of Manitoba College of Dentistry. She also completed a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Pontifical Xavierian University School of Dentistry. Her academic foundation includes a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the UNICOC Colombian School of Dentistry, complemented by a Diploma in Dental Hygiene from Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC) and a Fellow of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS), Dr. Castro is an active member of the College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CDSS), the Canadian Academy of Periodontology (CAP), and the Canadian Dental Association (CDA). From 2019 to 2022, she also served as an Assistant Clinical Instructor at the University of Saskatchewan, College of Dentistry, supporting the education and mentorship of dental students.
Dr. Castro continues to pursue ongoing professional development through advanced surgical and esthetic education. She has completed certification in Botulinum Toxin (Neuromodulator) administration through the University of Alberta, expanding her ability to integrate adjunctive esthetic and therapeutic treatments into periodontal and oral surgical care.
In her practice, Dr. Castro focuses on providing comprehensive periodontal, implant, and oral surgical treatments with an emphasis on functional and esthetic outcomes. Outside of her professional commitments, she enjoys travelling, practicing yoga, and exploring nature.
